Advocate Now!

Call your Senators and Representatives at (202) 224-3121* today and tell them you support the refugee resettlement program and oppose President Trump's executive orders against refugees.

*Please call this line 3 times to be connected with your 1 Representative and 2 Senators

Sample Script: “I’m your constituent from [City, State], and I support refugee resettlement. I strongly oppose President Trump’s executive order against refugees - both the original and the rewritten version. The order will bar individuals from Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen; grind refugee resettlement from all countries to a halt; and reduce the number of refugees we welcome to 50,000, a historic low. This is morally reprehensible and does not reflect the welcome for refugees I see in my community every day. I urge you to do everything in your power to see this executive order rescinded.”

Disastrous consequences of the first executive order against refugees are reverberating around the world. President Trump's rewritten order will have the same catastrophic impacts. This is not who we are as a nation. We cannot turn our backs on the refugees we pledged to welcome. As Americans and as people of faith, we must stand together and urge Congress to do everything they can to ensure the executive order is rescinded.

Take action TODAY! Call Congress and tell them you oppose Trump's rewritten Executive Order and that your community stands ready to welcome refugees from all countries and faith backgrounds.

Call to Action: Support Refugee Resettlement

Dear Staff, Friends, and Volunteers,

Refugee resettlement in the U.S. is currently being threatened. It is important to make our voices heard, and for us to show our solidarity with the refugee community. Here are three ways you can show your support for the refugee community right now:

  1. Please take a moment right now to call your Representatives and Senators (Contact information is below) and ask them to respond by standing for refugee resettlement in session. Every time a call is made, a staffer is required to take notes so this is a powerful way to show that our community supports refugee resettlement. Example calling scripts can be found below.
  2. Please send a message to the White House via email here. Here’s an example message adapted from RCUSA.org: 'President Trump, I urge you to welcome refugees for all regions of the world and support the U.S. refugee resettlement program. Resettlement is a core American legacy that extends hospitality and offers a chance for refugees to rebuild their lives in safety and dignity. Colorado is proud to welcome refugees, and I urge you to reflect the best of our nation by supporting refugee resettlement in the United States.'
  3. Sign up for advocacy alerts from ACC here!

Example messages to share with Representatives and Senators:

“Hi, my name is [Name] and I am one of your constituents in [city]. I am proud to live in a state that openly welcomes refugees.  As a representative of Colorado constituents, I ask that you stand with refugees whenever possible in your role as [Senator/Representative]. The Executive Order on refugee resettlement set to be signed this week directly threatens many members of our Colorado community who are awaiting family members to arrive. I urge you to publicly support refugee resettlement in the United States."

"My name is [Name] and I am calling on Rep. [Name] to publicly support refugee resettlement from Syria, Iraq, Somalia, and other Muslim-majority countries. The current vetting of refugees is extremely thorough; numerous security and background checks take up to 2 years before an applicant is granted refugee status.  Stalling resettlement from these countries is nothing more than thinly veiled religious discrimination. I urge you to continue to welcome refugees in our country.”

""My name is [Name] and I am calling on Rep. [Name] to publicly support refugee resettlement in the United States.  Stalling resettlement will further destabilize fragile regions of the Middle East and Africa, and as a global leader, the U.S. needs to continue setting an example in resettlement because it’s the right thing to do.  I urge you to set an example in the [Senate/House] whenever refugee resettlement is threatened."

Thank you for your ongoing support of refugee resettlement in Colorado and across our nation. We are proud to live in a welcoming state!

With gratitude,

Melissa Theesen
