to help refugees rebuild safe, sustainable lives in Denver through supportive networks of people, services and community activities.

To be an integrative center of multicultural exchange where community members feel a sense of belonging and actively contribute to an inclusive society.

Our Story

The African Community Center of Denver was created in May 2001 through our parent organization, the Ethiopian Community Development Council. Beginning with only 3 staff members resettling 60 refugees, we have grown into a staff of over 50 competent, compassionate employees who serve over 580 refugees, asylees, and secondaries each year!

At the African Community Center, we accept refugees who have fled persecution in their home countries and have received third country resettlement through the UNHCR and the U.S. State Department. Refugees come to Colorado from all regions of the world. ACC welcomes people from all over the globe.

With a diverse staff and the help of faithful volunteers and interns, ACC conducts educational and social service programs that help newcomers rebuild their lives in their new communities, navigate US systems and cultures, recover from past trauma, gain personal independence and economic self-sufficiency, and become able, productive, and contributing members of society.
