Volunteers are vital to the fulfillment of the African Community Center's mission to help refugees rebuild safe, sustainable lives in Denver through supportive networks of people, services, and community activities. We welcome hard-working and passionate individuals who are committed to our mission and values.

To volunteer, you must first attend a General Orientation and complete the subsequent paperwork. At General Orientation you will learn about the work we do and be cleared to serve with ACC as a volunteer. Please browse our current volunteer needs. After reading through the descriptions, please RSVP to one of the General Orientations below.

All General Orientations are from 6:00pm - 730pm.

First Friends

As a First Friend, you will spend a good deal of time with a refugee family helping them adapt to their new community. This commitment can be as little as one hour a week and up to the amount of time you decide.

We ask that you commit a minimum of three months to your First Friends placement. Not only does this timeline ensure that you form an adequate emotional bond with your First Friend, but it also allows for enough time to complete our program model and achieve the goals of empowerment, enrichment, and exchange. We firmly believe that everyone has something to learn and everyone has something to teach.

First Friends Program

To sign up for first friends you must first attend a General Orientation Session (RSVP above). After the General Orientation, you will attend a First Friends specific orientation to learn more about the program and responsibilities. Please RSVP below to the First Friends Orientation once you have attended General Orientation.

Internships

The African Community Center is always on the lookout for new energy and support for our work and community. Interns play a key role in helping us further our mission to help refugees rebuild safe, sustainable lives in Denver through supportive networks of people, services, and community activities.

We strongly value the investment of our interns. Interns bolster our capacity immeasurably, enabling us to achieve far more than we otherwise could.
